Francisco Candido Xavier, popularly known as Chico Xavier, was a charlatan?
This constatation makes so much people cry, believing to a fairy-tale reputation officially associated to the alleged medium in Brazil, supposedly seem as a symbol of human virtues.
But there's so much proves and evidences that Chico Xavier was really a charlatan.
And the proves was not brought necessarily by his detractors nor by people busy to ruin freely his reputation.
The proves should come, unexpectedly, by people who is very supportive and devote to Chico Xavier.
One example is the also alleged medium and writer Suely Caldas Schubert.
She made a book, titled Testemunhos de Chico Xavier (Chico Xavier's Testimonies), entirely dedicated to the letters Chico sent to Antonio Wantuil de Freitas, president of Brazilian Spiritist Federation (FEB).
One letter, published in May 3rd 1947, unmasked the farse of Parnaso de Alem-Tumulo (Post Grave's Parnassus) book.
This book was strangely altered five times in 23 years, having five editions after the first, published in 1932: 1935, 1939, 1944, 1945 e the last one, sixth and definitive, 1955.
Poems were included or excluded depending the conveniences, and it's so very strange to a book allegedly attributed to the spiritual benefactors.
The letter wrote by Chico to Wantuil was made in these terms, in english translation:
"I'm so thankful for your appointments alusive to 'Parnassus' to the next edition. Competence and possibility are missed to me to cooperate to a meticulous review, and that's the reason why your intention to make that job with the collaboration of our estimated Dr. (Luís da Costa) Porto Carreiro (Neto) is a fortunate initiative. To the occasion the job got ready, if you can give me a "quick view" of a corrected volume, I would be so glad, because it will bring me the opportunity to listen the Spiritual Friends, in some point to be more and less doubtful. There's a poem, the one about I asked for help, but it continued to be unperfect since the first edition. It's that one, 'Aves e Anjos' (Birds and Angels) (..) It ended this way: 'Smiling... Singing...' and not 'Smiling... Smiling...', as it is being printed".
It means that Parnaso de Alem-Tumulo is a fraud and the "Spiritual Friends" mention don't give authenticity to alleged psychography attributed to several dead writers, but the contrary, reinforcing the hypothesis that the poems brought irregularities from the respective authors' personal styles.
Thus, Parnaso de Alem-Tumulo as a farse made by Chico Xavier, Wantuil and the editor staff of FEB.
Other case is about Otilia Diogo's tricky show of pretense materialization.
Otilia Diogo was a pretense medium from Minas Gerais and worked in Uberaba.
She promised to bring the materialization of Irma Josefa and other spirits, the doctor Alberto Veloso and an allegedly late anonymous boy being nine years-old at his death.
Otilia organized such frauds in the mid 1960s, specially in 1963 and 1964.
She ordened to build a cage, when the pretense Irma Josefa should rise, allegedly crossing the grids.
An assistant sat on a chair had gauze and cotton placed on him, simulating materialization by ectoplasm.
Otilia was later denunciated by the press, including O Cruzeiro magazine from Diarios Associados.
In october 27th 1970, reporters found clothes and other objects used by Otilia Diogo's illusionist spectacle, and she was then unmasked. Even the doctor Veloso was Otilia with a dummy barb!
She was arrested to jail (what an irony!), then she was released and laterly she lived her last days in ostracism.
Officially, Chico Xavier, who watched the tricky show with his fellow and disciple Waldo Vieira, as deceived by Otilia Diogo.
But Chico Xavier had not deceived by Otilia Diogo. And the confirmation was not from his detractors or someone envious or malicious.
The prove was brought, for twice, by a photographer who was solidary to Chico Xavier.
Nedyr Mendes da Rocha made several photographies about de event of Otilia Diogo, and showed Chico Xavier very extroverted and communicative.
Chico was very outgoing to be deceived, and he seemed to follow everything closely.
In one of the pictures, Chico Xavier was seeing observing the cage used by Otilia to her show.
Chico Xavier seemed to be very attentive and considerate to be really deceived.
There's no moment that Chico Xavier indicated the lack of attention of some naivety to the event.
A selection of pictures above in this post are a little sample of the confirmation that Chico Xavier previously knew everything about the farse of Otilia Diogo.
A fallacy was created to armour Chico Xavier, saying that accomplice is not a guilty, and he was tendentiously acquitted in this case.
Otilia was unmasked in 1970. Chico Xavier, in 1971, had a clean way to rise and he was been interviewed by Pinga Fogo show, at the TV Tupi channel, also from Diarios Associados.
The path to make Chico Xavier a demigod started then. And the impunity reigned to Otilia Diogo's partner, wrongly considered "deceived", despite the proves that he knows about everything.
